4 Things You Should Get Used To

Here are 4 of many things that you may have to get used to in ministry...

1. You will be making phone calls and writing emails. Making phone calls scares me. Is anyone else with me on this?

2. Middle school students generally do not know how to pack a lunch for themselves. A few gifted ones may know how, but most will pack a pretzel sandwich if not guided to do otherwise. True story, pretzel sandwich and Wonder Bread. I admire that kid!

3. Nearly no one is as dedicated to the ministry as you are. This is why you are leading the ministry. Don't look down on others for not being as dedicated.

4. What works this year will not work next year or even next week. Letting go allows progress. The Israelites had to smash the Bronze snake made by Moses before they could truly move on. Smash your bronze snake!

What have you had to get used to?

  1. 1. When you're at home and someone moves the peanut butter, it was either my spouse or myself. When someone moves the peanut butter at church, there are hundreds of suspects.

    2. High school girls are never prepared for a sleepover or a mission trip. In preparation for this phenomenon, pack as if packing for an entire extra person.

    3. Good old-fashioned notes of appreciation go a long way for volunteers.

    4. No 15 passenger vans.

  3. Ok, you inspired me to comment too (Youth Pastor's Wife and sister to Ben talking here:)

    1. Following a ski trip, take vocal, whiny complainers about injuries with a grain of salt, but closely examine the ones who do NOT complain!

    2. Contrary to popular belief, teenagers WILL survive without guzzling soda around the clock.

    3. Get used to always being surprised by the students (in both good and maybe not so good!)

    4. The students Never (ie, NEVER) got the mailing or email that you sent last week.

Ben, i esp like your no. 3 and 4.
    Sam: #2!
